Ha Giang is a province in northern Vietnam, bordered on the east by Cao Bang, on the west by Yen Bai – Lao Cai, on the south by Tuyen Quang, and on the north by China. The province’s capital, Ha Giang, is around 320 kilometers from Hanoi. The beauty of Ha Giang’s natural terrain, with various attractions such as Ma Pi Leng Peak, Quan Ba twin mountains,… Despite its rough terrain, Ha Giang continues to draw a large number of travelers, particularly those who enjoy riding by motorcycle.
As a mountainous province, Ha Giang’s climate is notably colder than in the lowlands, with an annual average temperature of 21-23 degrees Celsius. You may visit Ha Giang at any time of the year. People frequently visit Ha Giang in the autumn when it’s not too hot or too cold and the mountains are green. October, November, and December are the most attractive season when buckwheat and cabbage fields bloom. In the spring, apricot and plum flowers bloom in the woodland, giving the impression that you’re floating in the clouds.

It is also home to a community of 19 ethnic groups, each with its own distinct ethnic subtleties, as well as famous processed cuisines specific to the Northern mountainous area, such as Mac Khen, Doi seeds, and so on. Many delectable mountain specialties are made with star anise, cardamom, and honey.
Ha Giang – Tam Son is a picturesque route with an altitude of around 1000m above sea level which is a suitable distance for people who wish to join a Ha Giang motorbike tour for 1-2 days. Despite the short distance, this route is worth a motorbike tour since you may enjoy the fresh air while immersing yourself in the poetry and spectacular natural landscape of the vast mountains and woods. Especially when harvest season comes, the terraced fields turn to a beautiful green.
The ideal season to join this motorcycle trip is from October to December. This is the time of year when buckwheat flowers bloom, providing a lovely natural scene as you drive down the road. The rituals and habits of the ethnic minority here are also fairly diversified, such as the Gau Tao Festival and the Cau Mua Festival,… Cho Phien is also an intriguing site to visit if you want to experience the most authentic culture, life, and people in this area. The Quyet Tien market is usually held every Saturday morning when ethnic minorities in the area are excited to dress up and exchange mountain goods.
There are countless other well-known natural and cultural sites in Tam Son town such as Quan Ba Heaven Gate, Quan Ba Twin Mountain, Mong culture and tourist village, Nam Dam village community tourism village, and so on. Living in a traditional Mong home is one of the outstanding cultural experiences in the highlands here.
Tam Son – Yen Minh Route is another famous route for individuals who enjoy traveling by motorcycle. Riders may immerse themselves in its winding roads, observe spectacular mountain vistas, and visit varied ethnic minority towns from Tam Son town to Yen Minh.
The best time to travel on this route is from October to December each year. Yen Minh appears to be wearing a new shirt of buckwheat flowers growing along the back of the hill at this time, producing a view that is both beautiful and romantic when passing through this region.
The Yen Minh Pine Forest is one of the must-see attractions along this route. Coming here, bikers will have the opportunity to encounter tough cloud-covered roads, feel the cool climate above, and view the beautiful towering pines while gazing away, as well as photos of traditional Hmong and Tay houses. You may also go to Du Gia village to appreciate the quiet beauty, pure natural environment, and floating clouds. This location is well-known for its brilliant blue waterfalls, which surely will calm your soul after a long trip on a hot summer day.
The cuisine here has its own unique features thanks to the processing methods and use of regional ingredients of the mountainous ethnic minorities. The dishes include Au Tau porridge, Tam Giac Mach cake, Men Men, and so on.
The Yen Minh – Dong Van – Lung Cu route is relatively difficult to travel due to the terrain’s high cliffs, zigzags, and perilous passes. This will, nevertheless, be the best route for riders who love conquering or overcoming challenges. Dangerous mountain crossings and stunning natural landscapes on both sides of the road will undoubtedly provide amazing feelings when completing this motorbike tour.
Dong Van is a rare rocky plateau that preserves numerous vestiges of Ha Giang province’s old past. With an elevation of 1000 – 1600m, this location still retains the ancient architecture like Dong Van Old Town from the French colonial period, as well as the wild beauty of the limestone mountains like the Dong Van Stone Plateau. All create a very unique picture of interference between the nature of the mountains and forests of the Northeast and the slow pace of life of the highland ethnic minorities.
This motorbike tour ends at Lung Cu – the highest landmark of the North Pole of Vietnam that many tourists want to conquer when coming to Ha Giang. Standing at this spot, tourists can not only see the spectacular natural beauty of Ha Giang but also experience the tranquil, rustic appearance of the local people’s modest roofs.
The cuisine of the Northwest mountains is also clearly shown through many specialties here such as kitchen buffalo meat, Dong Van roll cake, Bac Me Lam rice, and five-color sticky rice,… With a simple way of cooking and using ingredients close to daily life such as Mac Khen, forest leaves,…, the cuisine here will surely give you a memorable experience when joinning Vietnam Motorcycle Tours on this route.
Another challenging route when experiencing the Ha Giang loop map is to start in Dong Van and travel through Meo Vac before arriving in Du Gia. A part of the Dong Van rocky plateau is also in the Meo Vac district, therefore these two areas draw a great number of tourists each year not only because of the spectacular natural beauty and unspoiled mountainous terrain but also because of the quiet and simple sense of the lifestyles of various ethnic minorities with distinct and long-standing customs living here.
Ma Pi Leng Pass connecting Dong Van and Meo Vac is a dangerous route that is not too strange for riders. Known as one of the most dangerous passes in Vietnam, one of the four great peaks of the North, when conquering this route, you will be immersed in the enchanting beauty of the majestic mountains, the golden terraced fields in the ripe rice season and the cool turquoise water of Nho Que River winding at the foot of the hill.
The road from Meo Vac to Du Gia village is also a winding and tortuous route, which is about 80km. There is around 26 km of Meo Vac – Sung Trai path that is particularly difficult; riders must run very carefully to guarantee safety, especially on misty days. The panorama along this road includes corn fields rising to the tops of steep mountains and lush vegetation following the season’s first rainfall.
Originally a little town in the valley, Du Gia is an exceedingly perfect site to complete your motorbike tour after exploring the Ha Giang loop map as it brings a sense of peace and calm when visiting here. Trekking, camping, and going picnics are various activities that are very suitable when coming here. In particular, you can immerse yourself in the fresh, blue water of Tham Luong waterfall – a stop that anyone who visits Du Gia once should explore.
A tip when traveling on the Ha Giang loop map is that don’t be afraid to ask locals for advice. They might know of hidden gems or shortcuts that aren’t shown on maps.
